More Information

Adventure Links Overnight Camps offer something for everyone. These camps are ideal for a camper's first time away from home, while also providing new challenges for returning campers.

Our newest camp Assateague Adventure is the camp for water lovers. We'll spend Sunday getting to know each other on our low ropes course, from there we hit the water, Paddling on The Bull Run, Stand Up Paddle Boarding on the Occoquan, and Surfing at Assateague Island National Seashore. Campers will spend the days on the water and nights camping out under the stars. It's time to have some fun in the sun, and knock surfing off that goal list.

Itinerary

Sunday

Challenge Course at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, VA

Campers will get to know each other and begin learning to work as a team while participating on our High Ropes Course. Campers will then have an introduction to camp craft including Leave No Trace Principles, camp cooking, and campsite set-up, and camp out at our home base at Hemlock Overlook Park.

Monday

Paddle on Bull Run, Clifton, VA

Campers will start off their week of adventures in kayaks on Bull Run, right here in Clifton, VA. Bull Run offers great flat-water paddling with beautiful scenery and the occasional rapid. The day will start with a lesson in water safety and paddling techniques. We will also dive into learning how to read the river, and finally get to put all of our newly found skills to the test. After a refreshing swim, they will head to our bunkhouses for a roaring fire and tasty food.

Tuesday

SUP on the Occoquan River, Occoquan, VA

After waking up and eating a delicious breakfast, we will make our way down to the mouth of the Occoquan River (where it meets the Potomac) to put some of our paddle techniques to the test while standing up. This is our first introduction to board sports and will help to get everybody in the mindset for the next 3 days. After the sun and paddling has worn everybody out, campers will head back to Hemlock Overlook for some downtime, dinner, evening activities, and time to pack for the beach.

Wednesday

Surfing at Assateague Island National Seashore, MD

Setting out early in the morning, we will set our sights on Assateague Island, located on the DelMarVa peninsula. Today’s focus will be on oceanfront safety, reading the water, and basic surfing technique. After we are all tired from the sun and beach, we will head to Our Campsite a few minutes away to cook dinner and play some evening games.

Thursday

Surfing at Assateague Island National Seashore, MD

Building on the basic skills that we learned the day before, we will dive deeper into surfing and hopefully catch some awesome waves. In the event the waves are not there, we always have a back-up plan whether that is beachfront games or a trip to the Ocean City boardwalk. Everybody is guaranteed a smile on this trip.

Friday

Beach Day at Assateague Island National Seashore, MD

Our final day at the beach will be spent putting all of our surfing practice to the test or just hanging out on the beach. We will also take the opportunity to try to spot some of Assateague’s longest residents, wild horses. After one more full day at Assateague, we will head back to Hemlock Overlook Regional Park to clean up our gear and process the week over pizza.

Saturday

Trip Conclusion at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, VA

After a week of adventures, the last day is usually filled with a much deserved late wake-up time and goodbyes to friends, new and old. The formal end to each trip is a cookout for campers and their families to attend.
