A nature-based day camp, Hemlock Adventure takes place at our base camp at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park. After the first day of our signature team building course, campers will spend the next four days exploring the park by hiking trails and climbing trees, discovering wildlife and tubing down the Bull Run. Campers will also learn about living in the outdoors, and basics of skills such as shelter building and fire starting!
SAMPLE Itinerary
Every Monday of Hemlock Adventure Camp will take place on the Challenge Course at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park in Clifton, VA.
The daily schedule for Tuesday – Friday will vary each week, and a specific itinerary will be provided via e-mail once all campers in your camp session have completed paperwork.
Day 1
Challenge Course at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, VA
Campers will get to know each other and begin learning to work as a team while participating in a series of interactive initiative games, challenge course elements, and will get the chance to experience our Flying Squirrel high ropes element.
Day 2
Environmental Education at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, VA
Campers will learn about the local ecology, wildlife, flora and fauna. With some luck and persistence, we will be able to find some neat little critters to talk about. At the end of day, we will have an activity to tie it all back together.

Day 3
Outdoor Living Skills at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, VA
Campers will learn about wilderness skills such as natural shelter building, map and compass skills, and fire building. Activities vary on a daily basis depending on the group and various weather conditions.
Day 4
Tree Climbing and Hiking at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, VA
Campers will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of local ecology and then get up close and personal with some of our biggest trees on site.
Day 5
River Tubing and Scavenger Hunt at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, Clifton, VA
Campers will spend the first part of their day tubing down Bull Run and the second half of their day putting their newly found skills to the test with a scavenger hunt.
Pack List
Here's What to Bring
To make sure campers come to Adventure Links prepared, we've generated pack lists for our Hemlock Adventure Day Camp.
Please Note: You will receive an EXACT itinerary via e-mail once you've completed your pre-camp paperwork. This will explain what the activity is for each day and what to pack. Mondays of ALL camps will begin with our Team Development Course.
DAILY PACK ITEMS ( M - F )
- Daypack/Small backpack
- Close toed shoes such as tennis shoes or hiking boots (no flip-flops, sandals, or crocs)
- Lunch
- 32 oz. re-usable water bottle/Nalgene
- Bug Spray
- Sunscreen (at least 30 SPF)
- Rain Gear or Poncho
SPECIFIC WATER DAY ITEM (in addition to daily items)
- One pair of water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet, or fixed heel/closed toe sandals (no strapless sandals, crocs, or flip-flops)
- Swimsuit
Lunch Considerations:
- Please pack lunch in a 1 gallon sized zip-lock bag
- Ensure that the camper's name is written on the bag in permanent marker
* Note: All camper lunches are stored in a large dry bag that instructors carry with them in a boat. For this reason, large cooler box and college bag lunches are not ideal for packing as there is not space for them in our dry bags.
