North Carolina Expedition
The North Carolina Expedition combines the challenge of rock climbing with the thrill of whitewater and the experience of being out in the wild! This trip has a little bit of everything giving everyone the taste of true adventure. Our summer teen expedition begins at Adventure Links Base Camp to prepare for this exciting trip while packing our gear and embarking on our High Ropes Team Challenge Course and heads south from there.
ITINERARY:
Team Building - Sunday: Drop off at 2:00 pm
Location: Adventure Links Base Camp
As part of pre-trip preparation, necessary gear will be issued, the van loaded and we will prepare our camp for the night. This evening will be an introduction to tents, outdoor cooking and low impact camping skills. Parents, be sure your child has had lunch as only dinner will provided today.
Travel Day - Monday
Location: Adventure Links at Hemlock Overlook - Clifton, VA
We wake up at Adventure Links base camp and and begin our travels to Pilot Mountain State Park. We will camp there tonight and wake up tomorrow morning for some rock climbing adventures awaiting us.
Rock Climbing - Tuesday
Location: Pilot Mountain State Park, NC
Today we will introduce climbing techniques and climb all day on the beautiful cliffs of Pilot Mountain! We head back to our campsite this evening for some good food after a long day.
Travel Day - Wednesday
Location: Bryson City, NC
We head farther into North Carolina today and set up camp alongside the Nantahala River!
Paddling - Thursday
Location: Green River Adventures, NC
Today we will have the incredible opportunity of working with the amazingly talented guides from Green River for one-on-one white water kayaking instruction. We will learn paddling and roll techniques.
White Water Kayaking - Friday
Location: Green River Adventures, NC
With our newly learned skills we head out to paddle for the day. We will certainly remember this exhilarating experience and breathtaking scenery! Tonight we spend one more night in our platform tents at a nearby campground.
Backpacking - Saturday
Location: Table Rock, NC
We wake up and learn all about food, packing, safety and map reading for our upcoming backpacking trip. We head out in the afternoon and hike a couple of miles into the wilderness, working out the kinks, and set up our first primitive campsite!.
Backpacking - Sunday - Tuesday
Location: Pisgah Forest, NC
We continue on the trail learning all about backpacking in the process. We will be professionals at "Leave no Trace" and "Bear Bagging" by the end of our trip! We spend Tuesday in camp participating in a Solo and visiting a nearby waterfall. Each night we make group meals with our camp stoves and have plenty of fun evening hours for creative games!
Rest Day – Wednesday
Location: Dupont Forest State Park, NC
Today is a rest day after our adventures in the backcountry. We will head to Dupont Forest State Park and see some beautiful waterfalls.
Travel Day – Thursday
Location: Elizabeth Furnace - Strasburg, VA
We travel to VA today and camp at a campground close to our next days activities.
Rock Climbing - Friday
Location: Elizabeth Furnace Climbing Area - Strasburg, VA
We spend our last day together enjoying our honed skills of climbing and just being together! Tonight we travel to Bears Den, a popular spot on the Appalachian Trail to reflect on our trip and say our goodbyes.
Closing Activities - Saturday
Location: Adventure Links at Hemlock Overlook - Clifton, VA
With a renewed sense of adventure and memories of new friends, we head back to Adventure Links Base Camp to decompress and unpack. Pick up is at 11:00am
