Boundary Waters Expedition

The Boundary Waters expedition takes the backcountry experience to a whole new level while paddling in The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Superior National Forest in Minnesota has 1.3 million acres of towering rock formations, gentle hills and rugged shores nestled among several thousand lakes and streams … Our trip starts at Adventure Links in Clifton, VA. where we bond as a group on the Challenge Course, pack gear, and fly to Minnesota together the following day. On Moose Lake we learn the basics of canoeing and head out for our first campsite. As we catch a glimpse of the U.S./Canadian Border, we paddle deep into the backcountry where we’ll be removed from civilization: no motors or structures, just pure wilderness. We challenge ourselves portaging, carrying all of our gear (including the canoes!) over land from one lake to the next. Over the next few days we’ll develop our wilderness navigation skills and learn various primitive skills including friction fires, shelters, wild edibles, tracking, and of course fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike. In the following days we will try to take a stab at rock climbing on Knife Lake’s beautiful cliffs, visit historical sites, and spend time on a Solo. This day alone allows participants to experience the wilderness more intimately, while still within safe range of our instructors. After our final paddle back to base we enjoy an evening of good food, great stories and one last sunset over Moose Lake as we prepare to fly back to Virginia in the morning.
