Blue Ridge Odyssey

Engaging, Self-Driven and Effective

Empower your group with an activity centered around education, goal setting and fun! Adventure Links' Scavenger Hunts incorporate a number of activities in one engaging and participant-directed experience. With stations facilitated by Adventure Links' staff, participants will be presented with a number of challenges worth variable point values and choose which to attempt in order to achieve a goal of their choice. While the basics of orienteering and navigation are incorporated into each Scavenger Hunt, the activity can be designed with any curriculum. Please use the sucessful Scavenger Hunt examples below to start designing your program!

Survival Skills Scavenger Hunt

With stations including Bow Drill Fires, Trapping & Primitive Shelters, participants will be enthusiastic to try every challenge! Adventure Links staff teach each skill to participants, prompting them to demonstrate their ability and understanding afterwards. Successful completion of the task, whether it is setting a Dead Fall trap properly or producing a coal with a Bow Drill set, is recognized with the distribution of tokens put towards the desired goal. Participants are rewarded at the end of the day not only with a prize but also an education of outdoor living skills and technologies.

Craft Scavenger Hunt

Similar to the Survival Skills Scavenger Hunt, the Craft Scavenger Hunt is designed with a series of stations and rewards. Stations include low ropes team building iniatives, games, and Adventure Links staff challenges and are rewarded with materials to be used in a craft activity later in the day. Participants looking to use buttons in their project will not only need to complete the Acid River, a low ropes initiative requiring the participant of the whole group, but must challenge our staff to a game of Yee-Haw and win to get Elmer's glue! The end result, be it a poster or decorated photo-frame, serves as a reminder of their time spent with each other overcoming obstacles and challenges as a team.

Scavenger Hunts may be designed as single-day programs or included within a multi-day itinerary.
