Cave Exploration

High Adventure Caving in West Virginia

Caving glimpses a truly unique ecosystem, one that both stimulates intrigue and challenges the adventurous. Integrate environmental education and team development as you navigate underground caverns, past stalactites and stalagmites, with experienced Adventure Links field staff as your guides. With a headlamp illuminating your surroundings, you’ll find yourself otherwise immersed in total darkness, crawling, climbing and exploring the natural caverns.

Kayaking and Canoeing

Instructional Paddling for All Ages and Experience Levels

GROUP SIZE: 8+

LOCATION: Bull Run - Clifton, VA

Regional rivers are the ideal setting for exploration and hard-skill instruction. Navigate your own canoe or kayak down Bull Run, observing local wildlife in their habitats, or develop your technical paddling skills in a kayak.

                               

Rock Climbing

LOCATION: Great Falls Park - McLean, VA, Elizabeth Furnace - Strasburg, VA, Carderrock - Bethesda, MD

At regional climbing sites Great Falls and Elizabeth Furnace, explore the crag with a day of rock climbing. Climbs ranging from 30’ to 60’ allow participants to gain experience on slab, crack and flake climbs. Guidance and instruction from our field staff helps build a technical foundation. Courses range from beginner to intermediate, with additional instruction in belaying, knots and top rope set-up available.

Outdoor Living Skills

Survival Skills and Outdoor Living Lessons

GROUP SIZE: 8+

LENGTH: 4 - 6 hours

LOCATION: Hemlock Overlook Regional Park- Clifton, VA

The basic needs of survival can be characterized by the “Rule of Threes”, outlining requirements for shelter, food and water. Learn basic to advanced skills to support outdoor living and survival, including bow drill fires, shelter constructions, tracking, plant identification, cordage and more. Combine survival skills with orienteering for an all-encompassing lesson in outdoor living.
