5th - 8th grade

Environmental education introduces students to a diverse ecosystem that coexists with the world they know, leaving them with perspective and knowledge of their natural surroundings. Discover habitats of mid-Atlantic flora and fauna through hands-on exploration. Watershed Studies, Ecology and Land Forms lessons provide the educational basis for an eye-opening experience. Activities are geared toward reviewing topics from the Virginia Science Standards of Learning so the experience will relate directly to the classroom lessons.

Watershed Studies

​Watershed Studies is designed to help students learn that water systems are part of larger ecological cycle, define watershed and how everything in a watershed affects water quality, to engage in the scientific process of stream monitoring, and to assess environmental quality of body of water based on diversity of aquatic organisms.

​​Ecology studies focuses students to the idea that explanations of nature are developed and tested by observation, experimentation, models, evidence, and systematic processes. Students will explore the flora and fauna of the Northern Virginia area, specifically deer populations, specific trees in our area, and the effects both have on each other.

Land Forms is designed to focus on multiple parts of the complex forces that create and morph various land forms, groups will gain an understanding of the basic structure of the earth's interior, plate tectonics, weathering and erosion, the rock cycle including rock types, and Human impact.
