LEAD INSTRUCTOR
|
| DURATION |
June 4- Sept. 3 |
| DETAILS |
As a member of our summer staff, program instructors facilitate weeklong outdoor adventure Day programs & Overnights for youth (8-14). Seasoned leaders are also eligible to lead two week Expeditions for teens (14-17).
Day program programs are designed to give youth (8-14), in the D.C. / Northern Virginia area, positive and significant experiences outdoors. Instructor teams facilitate a new adventure pursuit each day and lead groups of 16 participants as they explore a variety of outdoor recreation sites in Northern Virginia and West Virginia.
On our Overnight programs, a team of instructors leads 16 participants (11-14) on a road trip that highlights wilderness areas of Virginia, West Virginia and Southern Pennsylvania. Instructors facilitate different adventure activities along the way and teach participants basic camping skills and some advanced outdoor living skills. With all of their gear loaded on a bus driven by an Adventure Links Lead Instructor, the group is self sufficient for the entire week.
On an Expedition two highly skilled instructors lead a group of 13 participants (13-17) on a two week van supported excursion through some of the finest outdoor adventure destinations on the East Coast and beyond. Different expeditions this year will travel to areas surrounding the New River Gorge (WV), Pisgah National Forest (NC), and the White Mountains (NH). There are two new expeditions this summer, one to the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and the other travels across the Atlantic to explore the rivers and mountains of Germany. A two week trip allows instructors the time to teach more advanced backcountry living skills and develop a strong community of motivated teens. These expeditions are often significant growth experiences for the instructors and the participants involved. |
