Bookkeeper (Part-Time)
Bookkeeper, – Clifton, VA
Reports to: Operations Director
Department: Finance
Part-time: Expected 20-24 hour per week at start, and 20 hours per week averaged over the year

Position Overview:

Adventure Links is looking for an experienced and skilled bookkeeper to assist in managing day-to-day accounting and finances, applicants must be organized, experienced with bookkeeping best practices, QuickBooks, and day-to-day finances. Ideal candidates are skilled multi-taskers who are comfortable creating a digital, paperless environment.

About You:
You live in Northern Virginia/DC metro area and can work from our head office in Clifton, VA at least once a week. You are organized and enjoy working in a unique office environment. You understand the privacy and discretion required when handling confidential business account information. And are excited to work with a dynamic outdoor company.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Accounts Payable
  • Pay vendor invoices and track account balances
  • Pay bills on recurring basis


Accounts Receivable
  • Manage and make bank deposits
  • Produce Summer Camp reseller invoices
  • Manage credit card payments
  • Maintain accounts receivable at an acceptable level


Payroll
  • Review and verify instructor payroll
  • Update and verify pay rates in QuickBooks


GL Duties
  • Balance and maintain accurate ledgers
  • Manage Bank-feeds


Miscellaneous
  • Monitor office expenses, and make sure they accurately categorized
  • Monitor & manage petty cash
  • Monitor & manage debit card transactions
  • Produce weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly basic financial statements
  • Assist with quarterly and yearly tax returns
  • Monitor and collect all accounts receivable
  • Assist and organize the financials of the company as needed


Supervision Received:This role will report directly to the Operations Director. The Bookkeeper is expected to self-align and manage their time. Daily priorities should be self-managed. Daily to weekly updates should be provided to the Operations Director. The Bookkeeper will coordinate and work with the Accountant for reports, budgets, and taxes.

Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Three years’ experience working in accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and payroll reports
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Extensive experience with data entry, record keeping and computer operation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and QuickBooks Desktop
  • Experience in services related to payroll such as writing checks and submitting payroll taxes
  • Strong understanding of business and income tax worksheets and computations

Camp Nurse (Summer Only)

The nurse will work two hours each day, Monday through Friday, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This position is perfect for a nurse looking for supplemental income during the summer..About You:You live in Northern Virginia/DC-metro area and can work at our summer camp in Clifton, VA, for two-hours Monday through Friday. You are seeking supplemental income, and understand this is a per diem position providing two-hours of work each day. You are licensed by the State of Virginia, and are comfortable working with children between the ages of 7 and 17. .Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Check in with campers each evening about any health issue
  • Distribute prescribed medication to campers
  • Follow-up with campers and staff about accident reports
  • Oversee first aid supplies
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

Three Season Instructor (Spring-Fall)

Duration: 8 MonthsStart Date: April 3rd, 2017End Date: November 19th, 2017Job Details:During the spring season instructors mainly lead team-building and environmental education programs with school age youth groups. During our summer season staff members lead summer camp programs or group programs. On weeks that are not full with programs, supplemental hourly work will be available. During our fall season staff members lead our group programs. Hourly work relates to current Adventure Links programs or facility projects.Housing:One of the major benefits of Adventure Links is the ability to live on-site, in small dorm like buildings on 235 acres of beautiful park land, with a community of peers. Along with this staff housing we offer a community kitchen/ bathroom with showers, laundry and wireless internet. Housing:

Along with this staff housing we offer a community kitchen/ bathroom with showers, laundry and wireless internet. Participating in this lifestyle is often a significant growth experience for our staff members.

Applications are accepted year round. The hiring process for summer of 2017 will begin in December of 2016 for selected applicants.

  • Minimum 21 years old. College degree in related field preferred.
  • WFA and CPR Minimum. WFR expected by second year of employment. Staff members with WFR certification are given preference on overnight and expedition programs.
  • Experience working with youth in a leadership role. Training and experience relating to outdoor leadership, experiential education or classroom teaching is preferred.

Northern Virginia - Summer Camp Instructor

Duration: Three Months

Start Date: June 2, 2017End Date: August 31, 2017

Job Details:

As a member of our summer staff, instructors facilitate week long outdoor adventure Day Camps, Residential Camps & Traveling Overnights for youth (8-14). Instructor teams facilitate a new adventure pursuit each day and lead groups of 14 participants as they explore a variety of outdoor recreation sites in Northern Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia.

Housing:

One of the major benefits of Adventure Links is the ability to live outside, in a platform tent, with a community of peers on 325 acres of beautiful park land. We also offer a community kitchen/ bathroom amenities, laundry and wireless internet. Participating in this lifestyle is often a significant growth experience for our staff members.

Application Deadline:

Applications are accepted year round.  The hiring process for summer of 2017 will begin in December of 2016 for selected applicants.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years old
  • First Aid and CPR Minimum. WFA/WFR expected by second year of employment. Staff members with WFR certification are given preference on overnight and expedition programs.
  • Experience working with youth in a leadership role.
  • Training in outdoor leadership or significant personal outdoor experience.
  • Desire to develop as an outdoor leader and facilitator.
  • Flexible, good humored and personable.
  • Invested in providing positive outdoor experiences for youth.
  • Strong work ethic, responsible and accountable.
  • Preference is given to applicants who are able to work for the entire length the employment period.

  • Invested in running quality Outdoor Education programs and developing skills as a facilitator and outdoor leader.
  • Strong work ethic, responsible and accountable.
  • Preference is given to applicants who are able to work for the entire length the employment period.
Essential Functions:
  • Work full and active days outside in the elements.
